They have. Slowly. He wants it to mean something and the funniest thing is I do too.
[ once upon a time Mollymauk Tealeaf wouldn't be caught dead confessing such a thing. he wouldn't be caught dead letting as many people as he has let in the last few months. he had been so against connections, against feeling anything more than surface level attraction that he held actively pushed people away.
it's funny how things changed since he came here, since they both stopped running.
the contents of the second present grinds all of his thoughts to a halt. immediately his gaze falls on the vial and the red liquid inside of it. he didn't need to smell it to know that it is blood, that it's Hugo's blood. he had given the man something similar for his birthday back in august, so no matter what the man would always have a piece of Molly beside him but this? this gift is on another level. gently he takes the vial from the box, holding it between his thumb and his index finger lifting it up to look at it in the light.
there is a beauty to it knowing it's Hugo's blood. blood that he has chosen to give to Molly in case their worst fears ever come to pass, an emergency option to see that he makes his way home. back to Hugo, to Caleb, to Lycaon, and all those he holds so damn close. the significance doesn't escape him, it sits heavily on his shoulders as he threads the chain into the clasp and loops it around his own neck. only once it's safely around his neck does Mollymauk wrap his arms around Hugo pulling him even closer against him. ]
If it means getting to come back to you, I'd say it's worth it. I've already experienced dying more than enough times in the last life, so I'm more than happy to avoid it in this one.
[ Hugo sinks against Molly, fitting himself against him in the way they felt natural. His head rested against the other's shoulder, his arms wrapping around him so that he could lean into him in a way that safely didn't crush the vial. Mismatched eyes peaked at him through blond wisps, listening to Molly's thoughts about the blood.
The thought of Molly dying wasn't one he wanted to think about. He didn't want to imagine what life would be like without the ray of light he provided. What happened with Lycaon didn't leave him happy about being close to others, but Molly squeezed himself in despite that and kept coming back. To possibly lose him would shred something stable inside Hugo, and he wasn't willing to chance that.
With the ask, Hugo lifted his brows. It meant uncurling his arms from Molly, but he supposes he can. Taking one hand out and lifting it up, the last present slowly lifted into the air and moved its way over to Hugo's palm. Once it was securely in his hand, he looked up to Molly. ]
Very well, but I'll still require one of your hands.
[ The box was held tight as he uncurled his other arm from around him to un wrap the ring box, his ear resting against Molly, and he sets the paper aside with the rest of the wrappings. ]
I promise this isn't some misplaced proposal, but it is still a promise.
[ His head shifted, lifting to peer up at the demon's face, presenting him with the open ring box, showing the gold band with the small, singularly sapphire gem. ]
The promises I made to you before are something I will hold to, and this is merely the physical manifestation of that promise. I will not hold back and I won't abandon you. Your spot in my life is secure. It will never change.
[ the thought of dying isn't one he wants to think much on either. it always drags the worst memories up to the front; the horrible twisted face of a man he doesn't remember but loathes, the clear scene of Yasha, Fjord and Jester bound (sometimes the memory flickers, the people shift. sometimes in the worst of his dreams he sees Lycaon, Hugo, and Caleb being torn from his grip), the desperate rage and grief, and the blinding pain of something vicious piercing his chest.
if something were to happen, if something was to rip them from him─if he lost Hugo. it wouldn't kill him but it would do something far, far worse. the thought makes him wish his blood could do something just as impressive, makes him wish he could give them a vial in case of emergencies or something. his blood used to be able to do a bunch of crazy shit, didn't it? if he had even a fraction of the power Lucien had maybe, just maybe, he could find some way to always keep them safe.
maybe.
but that thought drifts back into the depths of his mind when the present floats up and over to Hugo's palm, red eyes blinking rapidly. the questions of what, when, how dying on his tongue at the vampire's words. ]
Aww, really? And here I was hoping you were going to sweep me off my feet with a romantic proposal and everything.
[ Molly provides his right hand as instructed, lips pressed into a teasing grin. not that the teasing last very long, his line of thought utterly derailed by the open box and the ring nestled inside. he had been joking about the proposal! and yet the last of his gifts as a ring. anyone else would have rightly assumed it to be just that, but Molly knows full well where Hugo's heart lies. ]
I didn't doubt it... not really. [ his tail thumps against the couch. ] Lying isn't something we've ever done to each other. You, you didn't have to do this you know.
[ Where Hugo's heart laid had nothing to with it, he would say. If there was something he wanted, he was not going to let anything stand in his way, much less a wolf with a need to be an insufferably nice person.
That aside, seeing the amusement die on the other's face when he sees what the present was brought a quirk to his lips. He had always thought of molly as someone afraid of anything resembling commitment. Thus, he wouldn't ever do something that he feels is someone else's job to ease him into. This, however, was something very much in his power to handle. Giving molly his word that he is important to him, and something that will remind him every time he forgets. That is something Hugo can offer him.
The vampire plucks the ring out of the box, setting that aside and holding it out to him. ]
And when you're mad at me, you can throw it across the room. It's a handy little thing.
